My Search for Peruvian Tacu-Tacu in Los Angeles

While in Miami I enjoyed tacu-tacu at Farolito.

@BertaArt Clara Berta commented on my twitpic: "looks yummy and healthy as well!"

I attempted to post a gigantic reply to her on twitpic and found that there was a character limit ... so here is my reply:

@ClaraBerta I'm searching for tacu-tacu in LA. I'm going to ask Qusqo if they can make it since they are conveniently located but it's not on their menu. This is a version of the recipe: http://bit.ly/9DkbPL According to the recipes I found tacu-tacu is an Afro-Peruvian dish, designed to make good use of left-overs. The main ingredients are white beans and rice.

In my search for tacu-tacu, I picked up a Yelp description by Dao Nguyen of Mo-Chica in downtown LA. Interestingly, she mentions that Ricardo Zarate does a monthly tasting at Mo-Chica. I remember Zarate well as the excellent Peruvian executive chef and partner in Zu Robata on Wilshire in West LA, which sadly closed.  According to Dao's review on Yelp, Ricardo Zarate is now executive chef at Wabi Sushi in Venice.

Posted from flight UA 29 on my way to LAX.

Updates:
Still didn't find Tacu-Tacu anywhere on the west side of LA (Qusqo didn't have it).
Farolito is still serving delicious food, in a nice ambiance with great service.
