SingularCity® Takes Back Valentine’s Day

Los Angeles singles who enjoy their independent lifestyle say it’s not just for couples anymore.

Los Angeles, CA: SingularCity.com, the social networking and content-rich website for single men and women in Los Angeles who enjoy their independent lifestyle, will “take back” Valentine’s Day with a party at Pink Taco at the Westfield Shopping Center in Century City on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, from 7 to 10 PM. The event will also provide the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women.

“The old idea that you have to be half of a couple or at least on a formal ‘date’ in order to enjoy Valentine’s Day has got to stop,” says Kim Calvert, the founder of SingularCity and Singular magazine. Single people are no longer willing to buy into the stereotypical idea that we can’t be happy or successful unless we’re in a serious, long-term relationship. We’re tired of hearing that we’re supposed to be sad on Valentine’s Day. We are a growing and powerful group of citizens and consumers, and we refuse to accept all those ‘how to survive Valentine’s Day’ messages. We’re coming out on Feb. 13 to show the world we are happy, fearless and free.”

The first annual SingularCity “Take Back Valentine’s Day” party, packed with singulars, will benefit the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women, an initiative dedicated to saving women from the devastation of heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women in the United States. The event will include a silent auction of select, one-of-a-kind jewelry from posh Beverly Hills store CEZUA, interactive games from Wise Guys Events, and delicious appetizers and heart-healthy anti-oxidant cocktails from Pink Taco. There will be drawings for prizes from local merchants, including Macy’s, and for newly released books that take a stand for enjoying the singular life.

My Background for this Panel:

After working as an executive in Japan, I transitioned back to the United States with a product called Singelringen, a Swedish unisex ring for singles. That product demanded social media exposure and I dove straight in. I began the base for a career as a Social Media Marketing Consultant. I also built a network of 15 authors who wrote about Single Life in an empowering way and endorsed Singelringen. Several years later, one of those authors, Leslie Talbot, became a columnist for Singular magazine/SingularCity.com. Leslie realized that the philosophy of Singelringen and Singular were very similar and introduced me to Kim Calvert. 

I helped Singular Communications to launch SingularCity.com in September 2008 and have been their acting Community Manager since.  

SingularCity is about fully embracing and enjoying being single in Los Angeles. There are special interest groups, activities and opportunities to make friends in a relaxed atmosphere.
