We were pleased to find the film, About Time available On Demand from our local cable provider (Time Warner). $4.95 is a fair price to pay for a recent movie. Especially when it is this sweet, romantic flick from the director and writer of Love Actually, Richard Curtis.
You probably enjoyed Bill Nighy in Love Actually. Playing the father here, he has a role many men would be envious of.
The film was shot in the UK and many of the players are unfamiliar to American audiences. However, Universal Pictures included the American actress, Rachel McAdams I would imagine to make sure American audiences would not overlook this movie.
Romance, interesting story line and the following message about being present to life as it happens summed up at the end of the film. What more could you want for date night, a night with friends or even alone. You won’t be disappointed.
The truth is, I now don’t travel back at all,
not even for the day.
I just try to live every day as if I’ve deliberately come back to this one day to enjoy it.
As if it was the full final day of my extraordinary ordinary life.
We’re all traveling through time together every day of our lives.
All we can do is do our best to relish this remarkable ride.
Some critics, notably New York Times, A.O. Scott, who was assailed in the comments by waves of positive comments and assurances that audiences in steely Manhattan applauded at the end of the film. The populist vote on IMDB, currently at 7.8, gives a better reading on the most common reactions to this movie.
